Kenji Watanabe paints large, quiet landscapes in ink and thinned oil, working from memory rather than reference. His compositions strip a scene down to horizon, weather and a single held breath of space.
He trained in traditional sumi-e before moving into oil, and shows infrequently, preferring long, unhurried studio years between exhibitions.
